Description

Large and yellow with black stripes. Above, the marginal spot along the hindwing leading edge is yellow, rather than orange as on Eastern and Canadian Tiger Swallowtails -- but this can be difficult to see.

Habitat

Woodlands.

Flight Period

Mostly June-July; March-Oct in some areas with two broods.

Caterpillar Foodplants

Aspens, willows and other trees.

Other Notes

Seems to be less tolerant of suburban development than Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.

Scientific Information

Scientific Name - Papilio rutulus
